the museum "casa museo matteo sercia"
The museum "Casa Museo Matteo Sercia", founded by Gabriele Sercia in September 2010, was born from a passion for the sea and malacology, which is the study of molluscs (most people do not realise how beautiful they can be), accumulated in drawers, and it houses a wonderful marine world. The malacological museum, in fact, collects a heritage of organisms of extreme beauty and ecological and biological importance. This remarkable collection is exhibited over three rooms and gives an overview of the marine world. It houses specimens of echinoderms such as Arbacia lixula, Paracentrotus lividus, Spaerechinus granularis, Acanthaster planci, crustaceans and fish, including Rhinobatos rhinobatos, as well as shells belonging to Mediterranean and exotic molluscs, including Rapana venosa, Xenophora crispa and Chlamys proteus. One of the showcases exhibits several molluscs endemic to Sicily and specimens of gastropods and freshwater bivalves.
