The Torre Del Caricatore di Girgenti
The Torre Del Caricatore di Girgenti is one of hundreds of towers that were part of the sighting system for Saracen pirate ships along the coasts of the Kingdom of the two Sicilies. Its location is particularly important since it faces precisely that stretch of sea that separates Europe from Africa. For this reason it has always been held in very high regard and has been frequently restored. The most important intervention on the tower was commissioned by Emperor Charles V and it is, in fact, also known as the Carlo V Tower.
