TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL

TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL

Saint Lucia, which is celebrated on 13th December, is a Sicilian tradition shared with distant Sweden that, together with the feast of the Immaculate Conception, anticipates Christmas with all its scents, sounds and colours. Oranges gild the orchards and tables, leaving a strong aroma that recalls the warmth of fireplaces. The patron saint of eyes is traditionally celebrated with the preparation of arancine (breaded rice balls with different fillings), a delicacy for which we are famous across the globe, and the cuccìa, a humble desert prepared with boiled wheat and flavoured with bay leaves and orange peels. It is usually served with mulled wine but now there are more elaborate versions made with custard, chocolate chips or cinnamon and other spices.
