The Watchtowers

The Southern Italian Coast are characterised by a considerable number of towers built over the last few centuries of the middle age in order to make the defence system from Saracen invasion. These towers were renovated during the years and in additional were also built new towers, like the two in Ustica. The first village of Ustica rose around Santa Maria and Torre Spalmatore guard towers composed of big tanks to collect rainwater.
